As the FRPUG has been growing, I've noticed we have a large range of member experience, everywhere from new users with only a few months of PHP under their belt to members who have been developing with PHP for 12 years. The topics we will be covering should ideally provide something of interest to everyone in attendance.
I've decided to come up with a list of topics that I'm either interested in hearing about, or presenting about, and in turn, would like to hear from the other members about what they would like to hear about or present about. I am hoping this list will draw interest to people who are not yet attending FRPUG as well as bring the lurkers out of the woodwork to participate and bring up topics they'd like to hear about or present about. Please feel free to email topic suggestions to me at david@frontrangephp.org or post topic suggestions or offerings in the forums. So with no further adieu, I present the initial list.
Unit testing with PHPUnit - Beginning to Advanced Topics- Continuous Integration - Increasing confidence in your code

So anyway, there's a few topics to get the juices flowing. I am interested in hearing from you with any other topics you'd like to hear about, or if you're interested in hearing about any of these topics, or perhaps even presenting on any of these topics (or new ones that aren't listed as well). I am looking forward to hearing from you.

At tonight's meeting we held our first-ever elections for the FRPUG Board of Directors.  I'm happy to announce that David Stockton is the new Front Range PHP Users Group President, Chad Robertson is the new Vice President, and incumbents Matt Skinner and Asa Martin remain Secretary and Treasurer.  I think FRPUG is in great hands moving forward and I'd personally like to thank everyone who has attended and contributed to our group over the last year! |

Just prior to our August meeting the FRPUG site suffered some unexpected downtime due to our hosting provider's activities. Obviously, if you're reading this we're back up and running, thanks entirely to the work of Dan, our member-at-large. Thanks Dan!  We didn't lose much, but it will be a few days before we're running again at full power. During this time we set up a Twitter account for FRPUG, which you can follow at http://twitter.com/FRPUG.  We'll keep updating it, along with the site, though hopefully we won't have to rely upon Twitter as our sole means of communication with our members in the future! Our August meeting went very well -- Asa Martin spoke about his experience with the Dojo Toolkit and David Stockton gave a presentation about Firebug and FirePHP (which you may find here at the moment; we'll also be posting it to our Presentations section). I was very pleased with the turnout -- 12 developers in all -- and want to thank everybody for attending. |

Thanks to everybody who attended last night's meeting! Although we didn't have a formal presentation this month, we did have an opportunity to look at Maurice Svay's facial detection code and discussed the approach taken and potential optimizations. We also gave away a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, a wireless Microsoft mouse, and several other items o' swag.
We also discussed the future of FRPUG, and I'm happy to report that there is still much interest in keeping the only PHP user group in Colorado up and running. Slowly but surely more and more local PHP developers are learning about our group and bringing their expertise to our meetings. If you live within driving distance of Colorado Springs and have not yet attended a FRPUG meeting, I strongly encourage you to do so!
For our August meeting, Asa Martin will give a presentation about the Dojo Javascript toolkit. We'll post more specific information as we get closer to next month's meeting date.
Additionally, in the coming week I'll be posting the code and slides from some of our presentations earlier this year, including an introduction to Joomla! and PHP graphing options. |

Hot on the heels of the PHP development team's announcement of the release of the long-awaited PHP 5.3 comes the release of Firefox 3.5. The latter has not yet been officially announced by the Mozilla team, but it is available for download on the Firefox homepage.
